Rocky Linux is a Linux distribution developed by RSEF (Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation), which is a privately owned benefit corporation that describes itself as a "self-imposed not-for-profit". It is intended to be a downstream binary-compatible release using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system source code. The project's aim is to provide a production-grade enterprise operating system. Rocky Linux has become popular for enterprise operating system use.
Migration
You can migrate to Rocky Linux from CentOS Stream, CentOS, AlmaLinux, RHEL, or Oracle Linux. To do this, you need a handy tool called migrate2rocky. It is a script that, when run, will change out all of your repositories to those of Rocky Linux. Packages will install and upgrade or down-grade as necessary, and your operating system's branding will also change.
Caveats and warnings
Do check out migrate2rocky's README page, because known clashes exist. This script is most likely to work without incident on completely fresh installs. If you want to convert a production server, make a data backup and system snapshot, or do it in a staging environment first.
