Revision as of 15:15, 8 November 2024 by Atmois (talk | contribs) (Add standards section)

This is a draft.

How Contributing Works

Any user can register and submit changes to the wiki, however any changes from new/untrusted users will require approval from a Wiki Admin or a Trusted User.

You can become a trusted user in a few ways. You can join our discord at https://discord.gg/linux and request in the Wiki-Public channel to be promoted to a Trusted User, there are no formal requirements for becoming Trusted but we normally require some history of positive contributions to our or another wiki (E.g: You are an active contributor for the Arch Wiki) or a positive history within the Discord server or the FOSS community.

If you do not have discord/wish to request the role another way you may contact us via the methods listed in the Contacts Section however replies will typically be slower than via discord.

Reporting

If you see a malicious edit/vandalism you can contact us via the methods in the Contacts Section (Discord Preffered) with the link to the page/user/edit in question and we will tackle it as soon as possible! If you are a Trusted User you may set the "Authorised" revision to the previous one but do note other Trusted Users can override this. Always if possible avoid edit wars and contact an Admin who can mitigate the situation apropiately.

Standards

We expect a high standard of our editors so we require the following for all pages unless exemption has been given by an Admin:

  • Always cite when required (E.g: Quotations, benchmarks, release dates), a good guide is the Wikipedia Citing Sources Guide.
  • Ensure information is accurate and up to date, this can be done by ensuring you are using the offical sources for information.
  • Pages should be unbiased, if there has been a controversy on a specific topic make a section on the page regarding it and ensure that you remain unbiased at all times to ensure the reader only is given the facts.
  • Ensure that your page is consistant with others in both the formatting and the terminology, e.g. for the x86-64/AMD64/x64 architecture it should always be reffered to by AMD64 as it is its offical name. Further details on this can be seen in the Contributing#Formatting section.

Contacts

You can contact the admins in several ways, the best is joining our discord and asking in the #wiki-pub channel, or if it is of a sensitive nature opening a ticket and asking to speak to the Wiki Admins via the /ticket command.
